I just had a wonderful conversation with another deviantART member and I thought the exchange of ideas between us was too damn good to waste it - so here it is.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Takkun2021 -- Why not try modeling it out, instead of posers?
Tasharene -- Why not posers instead of modeling it out?
~Takkun2021 -- Because you can make your render look far better, if you actually know how to model and texture. Also, your lighting is good, but the textures could use a lot of work. Working on tangent normals to create 3D depth to the characters instead of being so smooth would help. And, your work isn't even your work, then.
=Tasharene --I like my art as it is and I like the textures, lousy as they are, thank you very much. I don't mind the fact that the models I use are not my work; even their creators don't mind it, cause they earned the money that I paid for them. People who commission me don't seem to mind any of it, either. Thank you for the critique that I did not ask for, and now, if the quality of some elements of my art bothers you, you are free to move on to other galleries. Have a nice day.
~Takkun2021 --No, what bothers me is that people can just pose a mannequin without understanding a single thing about creating in a 3D program, and people will call it art.
=Tasharene --Creating a basic render in a 3D program is NOT art. Turning a 3D render into an image that tells a story or conveys an emotion, however, IS very much art. Take it or leave it.
~Takkun2021 --A friend working for Blizzard's modeling dept said they'd be fired for using posers. Why? Because it's not yours, and makes the work that much more stale and unoriginal.
=Tasharene --Do I work for Blizzard? Look, your arguments have been used and re-used millions of times, by other people equally frustrated that someone dares to use Poser, so such discussion is indeed stale and unoriginal. If you think my art is not art, if you don't like what I do, then simply GO ELSEWHERE and stop bothering me and yourself, ok? It's not that someone forces you to view my gallery, really.
~Takkun2021 --I saw only a new pic that happened onto the homepage of dA, not even beginning to touch the rest of your gallery. People who use posers are literally the laughing stock of the 3D art community, like people who paint "abstract" and "modern" art, while calling themselves a painter.
=Tasharene --Fine, so I am the laughing stock of the 3D art community. So?
~Takkun2021 --That means your work is worthless, and you're making "art" as much as the girls that take pics of themselves and throw a PS filter on it.
=Tasharene --Cool. So? Sorry, but I still don't see a point in you telling me all these revelations.
~Takkun2021 --Oh, in no way am I saying not to use posers, just that your work is straight up crap for doing so.
=Tasharene --Fine by me! I just really fail to see the reason why you decided to enlighten me about it.
~Takkun2021 --Strictly boredom, when sickness prevents going to work, there's not much else to do but be honest.
=Tasharene --Ah, I see. Pity, though, I hoped you had a point. Anyway, I'm glad that my lousy images have prevented you from dying of boredom. And thank you for the good laugh.
~Takkun2021 --No, the only point is that poser models are for the people who could only use paint-by-numbers, since they didn't have the skill on their own.
=Tasharene --Yeah, you said that many times already. You're getting repetitive, dear. I suggest you stop playing with the crap in my gallery now (it stinks, ya know) and find another artist you can be honest with. Cheers!
Aaaand... I am still giggling inside.
Knock, knock.
So, hello, to whoever is left of my old watchers! NFTs seem to be dead, and I have outlived them, so I decided to pull my works out of the dusty storage and the cobwebs. I missed having a place where I could just go and look at my art. Especially now that I know there won't be any more art from me... Not really my decision, that - you see, I had a stroke, had to spend 5 months in a hospital to learn to walk, talk and eat again, and my hands are still not what they used to be, neither is my brain, to be honest. Holding focus, memorizing details? What are those? I don't know them. Ehh. Humans are faulty and fragile machines, please take good care of yourselves. Anyway, hello again, everyone, here I am, for what little it's worth.
Thank you and I'm sorry.
Well, this is a goodbye. I've been on this site for 16 long years. I've stayed through all the changes, through all the wars and dramas, but NFTs are where I draw the line. Recently, I was alerted that multiple works have been copied from my deviant gallery and posted for sale as NFTs after being altered to hide the subtle watermarks that I always add. Honestly, this is disgusting. I, the artist, am not making any money on my art, why should I allow someone else to do so? I can't - and shouldn't have to - take the time out of my day to report each and every single one of them and make a case, prove that I am the creator to those who chose to host such art indiscriminately. It's just not worth it in the long run; there seems to be no way for me to protect myself and my works against it, so it would keep happening again and again... The best thing I can do is to just pack my things up and move on. To those of my followers who still remember who I am despite my recent inactivity:
Eclipse outrage.
Ever since Deviantart made the announcement about the obligatory move to Eclipse for everyone, I keep seeing people leaving in protest and making a show of it. As if they were making a point by screaming into the void of the Internet that they are terminating their accounts here. And it's just so damn frustrating.
People seriously need to stop overreacting. Eclipse is a change, yes. A big one, too. It will take some time to get used to and get comfortable with, sure. But it's not the end of the world! COVID-19 probably is, though, so worry about that, instead, maybe? Eclipse is pretty damn functional, aesthetically pleasing, and it displays
*taps mic* Is this thing working?
Hello, my watchers!
It's been ages since I made a journal entry other than a tag or a set of memes, and that is a crying shame. According to deviantART, there are over a thousand of you out there watching me and my humble artings. How incredible is that? Even if half of that number are dead accounts - still impressive by my standards. So thank you for sticking with me, with my absences, depression, artist blocks, technical issues, and whatnot.
Now to the sole reason for this journal entry. There is a very special person among you who deserves a lot more recognition than she's getting, and I would like to introduce her to you.

I...hate...people...that short sited. I really do.
Those people do not sit there and scream at a person for buying a tube of paint...they do not go to the photomanip section and rail at people that use stock photos, they do not have a fit for someone buying clay instead of making "with their own hands". Even some of the biggest companies use "stock models". it is a -fact-.
I do know of some companies that very happily use poser.
Never mind people that buy are simply because they like it.
Art doesnt come with a disclaimer of what it was made with.
GUH I really hate people like that. Their nose so far up in the air they get nose bleeds.
