For days he had chased her through the vast forests and deadly marshes. Whenever he caught a glimpse of her in the distance, she looked so fragile and helpless, stumbling against treacherous roots and falling to the ground with a panicked cry. Every time she would gather herself up, however, and keep on running north, seemingly unaware that with every step she was approaching her death, for only the vast sea awaited her there.
Following his prey at a steady pace, the paladin had already planned out all the details of her execution at the stake, right in the center of his city's marketplace. The fame and glory seemed to be within his grasp when, at a rocky beach, she climbed atop an ancient ruin and finally faced him, gasping for air. A self-satisfied grin stretched the paladin's features when the witch sent him a defiant glare, obviously challenging him for a fight at last.
He was about to reach for his prayer book and recite the usual absolution formula for the sake of her dark soul, but she spoke first. Deadly words of forbidden magic blistered the crystal clear air, and the paladin backed away a few steps as the unspeakable horror rose from the water.
Yay, another overdone image comment from me! It's all because I had insane amount of fun working on the pic, so I hope you will like it.
The witch is another one of *cymbidium56's characters, the beautiful Jo, available at Cym's Renderosity store here: [link]
